Athol Fugard’s Blood Knot begins previews on January 31, starring Tony nominee Colman Domingo and Scott Shepherd. Directed by Fugard, Blood Knot is the inaugural production at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at off-Broadway’s new Signature Center. With an official opening night set for February 16, the revival will play a limited engagement until March 11. Blood Knot marks the first of three Athol Fugard plays that Signature Theatre will present this year.
Blood Knot tells the story of biracial brothers, Morris (Shepherd) and Zach (Domingo). While the light-skinned Morris can pass for white with no trouble, the dark-skinned Zach struggles at his job in a whites-only park. In Bloot Knot, the brothers grapple with isolation, poverty and the blood knot that connects them.
The creative team of Blood Knot includes set designer by Christopher H. Barreca, costume designer Susan Hilfterty, lighting designer Stephen Strawbridge and sound designer Brett Jarvis.
